Immigrant Visa Applicants: Come Prepared, Leave Successful!

Immigrant Visa Applicants: Come Prepared, Leave Successful!

In the first week of our “Missing Documents, No Visa Interview” policy, the U.S. Embassy’s Immigrant Visa Unit noted a significant increase in the number of immigrant visa applicants who came to their interviews prepared with all of the required documents. These applicants had quicker, smoother, and easier interview processes. Most of them had their visas approved the same day and should receive them within two weeks!

If you have an upcoming immigrant visa appointment at the Embassy, review the document checklist and instructions carefully.  Applicants who are not fully prepared will have to reschedule their appointments and collect all required documents before they can be interviewed, so be prepared!

Required documents include (but are not limited to):

  • Passport (valid for at least 60 days beyond intended travel date.
  • Original Civil Documents (e.g., certificates of birth, death, marriage, Certificate of No Marriage (or CENOMAR), Advisory of Marriages, and proof of termination of any marriage).
  • Original Philippine Police Clearance (National Bureau of Investigation or NBI) for applicants aged 16 and above. This is not optional.
  • Foreign Police Certificate (for any country the visa applicant worked or lived in for 12 months or more). These are not optional.
  • Affidavit of Support (I-864) and financial/tax documents from petitioner/joint sponsor.
  • DS-260 Confirmation Page.
  • Interview Appointment Letter.

Other required documents:

  • You must have attended your medical examination appointment at St. Luke’s Extension Clinic (SLEC) before your interview. Visit their website at slec.ph  for scheduling instructions.
  • NBI AKA for applicants with aliases or nicknames, including different spellings, appearing on public documents.
  • Petitioner’s original birth certificate for applicants being petitioned by their son/daughter or a sibling.
  • Original proof of termination of marriage for applicants with a previous marriage.
